Microscopic Diffusivity Compartmentation and Biexponential Diffusion Decay in Prostate Tissue
نویسندگان
چکیده
Diffusion tensor microimaging with 40 μm isotropic voxels at 16.4 T was used to investigate compartmentation of water diffusion and biexponential diffusion decay in formalin fixed prostate tissue. Tissue samples (~28 mm) were similar in volume to a typical prostate DWI voxel in vivo and were imaged with ~400,000 voxels. The bulk mean diffusivity (‘ADC’) of epithelial, stromal, and ductal/acinal compartments was estimated by two methods: manual region of interest (ROI) selection; and Gaussian fitting of whole sample voxel diffusivity histograms.

Biexponential diffusion decay in formalin-fixed prostate tissue: preliminary findings.
Magnetic resonance microimaging was used to measure diffusion decay over an extended b-factor range in a formalin-fixed normal prostate sample and a Gleason pattern 3+4 cancer tissue sample. The coefficients of biexponential fits to diffusion decay data from 1600 voxels of dimension 160 × 160 × 160 μm(3) in each sample were correlated with underlying epithelial and stromal compartment partial v...

The signal decay with increasing b-factor at fixed echo time from brain tissue in vivo has been measured using a line scan Stejskal-Tanner spin echo diffusion approach in eight healthy adult volunteers. The use of a 175 ms echo time and maximum gradient strengths of 10 mT/m allowed 64 b-factors to be sampled, ranging from 5 to 6000 s/ mm2, a maximum some three times larger than that typically u...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the biexponential apparent diffusion parameters of diverse prostate tissues and compare them with monoexponential apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value in the efficacy to discriminate prostate cancer from benign lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eleven healthy volunteers and 61 patients underwent a conventional (b-factors 0, 1000 s/mm(2)) and a 10 b-factor (0 to 300...

PURPOSE To investigate the microscopic diffusion properties of formalin-fixed breast tissue. METHODS Diffusion microimaging was performed at 16.4T with 40-μm isotropic voxels on two normal and two cancer tissue samples from four patients. Results were correlated with histology of the samples. RESULTS Diffusion-weighted images and mean diffusivity maps demonstrated distinct diffusivity diffe...
